I enclose two photos for your proposed exhibition of historical businesses of Barga families
who emigrated to Scotland.
My Nonno was Pietro Togneri who was born in Menchi near Barga. He emigrated to
Scotland about 1900, settled in Stirling, marrying Elita Bianchi who came from Filecchio.
The first photograph shows his first shop in Baker Street. He later moved into another
shop further downhill in Baker Street. He sold fish and chips as well as sweets, cigarettes
and apparently Bovril!

Please find attached two photos my aunt found of our family’s shops. The older one was
my great Grandfather Primo Mariotti’s Fish Restaurant on Hairst Street in Renfrew. The
photo is from the late 1920s. He was originally from the Capannelle (above Albiano). Mirella Biagi
The second is my grandfather Antonio Biagi’s shop “Tony’s Corner” on Inchinnan Road in
Renfrew. I’m not sure when he opened it but I know he retired in the late 1980s. Antonio
was born in Castelvecchio Pascoli. Mirella Biagi

Ho cercato l’originale articolo dall’archivio della biblioteca locale ma sfortunatamente non l’ho trovato. Spero che la qualità sia sufficiente per la riproduzione.
